A penny for your thoughts

That Little Penny In The Parking Lot
Remember this every time you pass that little penny in the parking lot. I always thought that it was for good luck, but I love this version better.
I found a penny today
laying on the ground.
But it’s not just a penny,
this little coin I’ve found.
Found pennies come from heaven,
that’s what my Grandpa told me.
He said Angels toss them down.
Oh, how I loved that story.
He said when an Angel misses you,
they toss a penny down;
Sometimes just to cheer you up,
to make a smile out of your frown..
So, don’t pass by that penny
when you’re feeling blue.
It may be a penny from heaven
that an Angel’s tossed to you..
I love the above poem. When I was a little kid, my grandmother and I would walk from my house to my aunt’s house. Along the way she asked me to keep my eyes peeled for coins. We’d always find something. Now, I seem to find coins everyday, and I know it’s my abuelita smiling down on me. James

Shine, shine, shine
June 16, 2008
‘Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so
that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other
people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.’

Road to success

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the friends and family members who have supported my book. I still need to sell 100 books before I can print. I’ve taken a weekend job at THE ALAMO to help make this dream come true. Thank you for waiting patiently, as I’ve hit a number of hurdles and missed my deadline of printing by the end of May. Pray for me and I’ll pray for you. Love, James
I put my hand in Yours
June 11, 2008
I put my hand in Yours and together we can do what we could never do alone!
No longer is there a sense of hopelessness, no longer must we each depend
upon our own unsteady willpower.
We are all together now, reaching out our hands for power and strength greater than ours,
and as we join hands, we find love and understanding beyond out wildest dreams.

Postcard

“The highest compliment I can receive is the opportunity to tell your story. Thank you for your trust.”
James
People have asked me about the postcard I send out promoting Some Monument to Last. The black and white photo is my father with three friends, delivering the Houston Chronicle. It’s one of my favorite pictures probably taken sometime in the late 40s. Many people comment on how serious or upset my father looks, I joke we all have that look, but we’re fine. People have also commented on the Cushman motorcycles, which are making a comeback with these high gas prices.
