My gold nugget ring
I have this lump of natural gold that I wear on my finger. Thankfully, after losing 81 pounds it fits once again. My mother gave me the small gold nugget ring when I was in the 5th grade in Lubbock, Texas.
This ring was quite a gift for an 11-year-old. It was a little too big back then and I managed to lose it. I was crushed and boy was mother upset.
One day I was watering the front lawn and I noticed a sparkle. In perfect timing my gold nugget ring met with the beautiful West Texas sun and I was there to find it.
I ran inside to show my mother. She told me she’d hang on to the ring until I was a little more responsible. That day never came.
In college I commandeered the precious stone and I’ve held it close to my heart ever since.
During a recent visit with my mother I acquired more family jewelry. Including a ring given to my mother by my grandmother and an ankle bracelet given to my mom by my father. If only the family jewels could talk.
