Human vessel

You alone are responsible for transforming your life. Which ultimately means seeing yourself as a human vessel for experiencing a deeper spiritual essence as a Being here on earth.

Burned Biscuits

January 6, 2012

When I was a kid, my Mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my Mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed.

Yet all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my Mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don’t remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that ugly burned biscuit. He ate every bite of that thing… never made a face nor uttered a word about it!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my Mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. I’ll never forget what he said: “Honey, I love burned biscuits every now and then.”

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she’s real tired and besides a little burned biscuit never hurt anyone!”

As I’ve grown older, I’ve thought about that many times. Life is full of imperfect things and imperfect people. I’m not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else. But what I’ve learned over the years is that learning to accept each other’s faults and choosing to celebrate each other’s differences is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

And that’s my prayer for you today…that you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them at the feet of God. Because in the end, He’s the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where a burnt biscuit isn’t a deal-breaker!

We could extend this to any relationship. In fact, understanding is the base of any relationship, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or even a friendship!

“Don’t put the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket – keep it in your own.” So, please pass me a biscuit, and yes, the burned one will do just fine.

Tio Max

Things are going to get better this year, because we are who we are and together we make a big doughnut that is tasty, sweet, and most of all kneaded with expectations that someone out there will take a big bite and love it. -Max Muñoz

A nice note from my Uncle Max.

You’re on camera?

People please be careful with your video-making machines. So many need to put them down and walk away. The camera will find you if/when it’s meant to be.

Photo below is one of my favorites. My grandfather working hard in Lufkin, Texas. I also worked in Lufkin as a weekend anchor. And because the truth is so cheap, I sold vacuums door-to-door. I was given a shot of strength and hope when I was given this photo. I saw my grandfather also passed through Lufkin pushing mattresses and getting it done. -JMD

I believe

December 24, 2011

•I believe in God, the Living Spirit Almighty; one, indestructible, absolute and self-existent Cause. This One manifests itself in and through all creation, but is not absorbed by its creation. The manifest universe is the body of God; it is the logical and necessary outcome of the infinite self-knowingness of God.
•I believe in the incarnation of the Spirit in all, and that we are all incarnations of the One Spirit.
•I believe in the eternality, the immortality, and the continuity of the individual soul, forever and ever expanding.
•I believe that the Kingdom of Heaven is within me and that I experience this Kingdom to the degree that I become conscious of it.
•I believe the ultimate goal of life to be a complete emancipation from all discord of every nature, and that this goal is sure to be attained by all.
•I believe in the unity of all life, and that the highest God and the innermost God is one God.
•I believe that God is personal to all who feel this indwelling Presence.
•I believe in the direct revelation of Truth through my intuitive and spiritual nature, and that anyone may become a revealer of Truth who lives in close contact with the Indwelling God.
•I believe that the Universal Spirit which is God, operates through a Universal Mind, which is the Law of God; and that I am surrounded by this Creative Mind which receives the direct impress of my thought and acts upon it.
•I believe in the healing of the sick through the power of the Mind.
• I believe in the control of conditions through the power of the Mind.
•I believe in the eternal Goodness, the eternal Loving-kindness and the eternal Givingness of Life to all.
•I believe in my own soul, my own spirit, and my own destiny; for I understand that the life I live is God.
